LONG-LOAD REVOLUTION
Ireland based Combilift Ltd is the manufacturer of a range of multi-directional forklifts for the material handling industry. The Combilift was the world’s first Internal Combustion engine Multi Directional Forklift. The company now produces over 10 different models and exports to industries all over the world. Combilift was established in Clontibret, County Monaghan, Ireland in 1998 by engineers Martin McVicar and Robert Moffett. With a combined engineering experience of over 40 years, they used their knowledge and practical experience to create the ultimate long-load material handling solution: the Combilift forklift. In just ten years Combilift grew to be the global leader in the long-load handling market. Combilift products can be found in over 50 markets worldwide and there are over 10,000 units in operation.
The rapid growth of Combilift was unprecedented. Combilifts were first exported to Norway and France in 1999. By 2000 over 300 units had been produced, earning the company and its founders numerous industry awards. By 2002, the company was selling trucks in 40 countries as the range of models continued to expand. Company growth required the construction of a new global headquarters in Monaghan, consisting of a manufacturing facility and research center. The 500th truck rolled off the assembly line in 2004 as the company introduced electric powered models and the load capacity for some of its models reached 12 ton.
Combilift is the world’s first Internal Combustion engine-powered all-wheel-drive multidirectional forklift. It is actually a combination of forklift and side-loader, and is highly maneuverable, very safe, very cost effective and supremely efficient. Its success can be attributed to the fact that it filled a void in the array of material handling machinery and provides a number of special benefits to customers.
The Combilift main benefits include:
Combilift produces over 10 different products for the material handling industry but it was the C4000, combilifts first product, that paved the way for the company’s success. While electric multidirectional forklifts were available, it was the Combilifts rugged design and internal Combustion engine that set it apart from the competition.
The Combilift C4000 was designed to take on the role currently occupied by conventional counterbalance and sideloader forklifts. Its design allowed the C4000 to handle palletised loads and long awkward loads with ease. The convenience of replacing two conventional forklifts with one combilift was a major benefit as was the increased safety for operators, indoor and outdoor capabilities and the achievable range of customization. The combilift’s guided aisle system and warehouse layout department helped to provide customers with the complete package when it came to material handling and storage. In some cases the combination of the two could increase a company’s storage by up to 100% without any increase in available storage space.
